DRAMA GALORE AS KPL TEAMS FAIL TO HONOR BETWAY SHIELD CUP ROUND OF 16 MATCHES



Betway Shield Cup round of 16 matches concluded on Sunday evening with unfolding drama among top tier teams and goals galore among the hopefuls.
On Saturday, KCB FC did not honor their fixture against Wazito FC at Afraha stadium in Nakuru. The club cancelled their trip to Nakuru in a press statement that blamed the COVID-19 Corona virus in Kenya as the main cause of them not honoring the fixture. It further went ahead to explain that they had written to FKF for the match to be rescheduled.
18 time KPL champions Gor Mahia also had the same excuse of not honoring their fixture against Posta Rangers at the same venue.
“regrettably, following and relying on the government statement on Corona Virus ,we disbanded our team, released the players and cancelled traveling arrangements to Nakuru.” read part of the statement from K’ogallo.
At Mbaraki sports stadium in Mombasa county, home team Bandari FC locked out visitors Sofapaka from accessing the stadium. The match, allegedly scheduled to be played at 4pm, had a mix-up from the hosts who according to them the time was 2pm, it is still unclear as to why they locked out Sofapaka FC and denied them access to the stadium. 
Second tier clubs Fortune Sacco and Bidco FC were scheduled to play at Kianyaga stadium, but sources on the ground alledged massive insecurities that resulted in the fixture not to be honored.On Sunday, hosts Ulinzi stars edged out second tier club Migori youth by a single goal that ensured their ticket to the last eight.
At the same venue, Afc leopards survived a scare when Ushuru FC held them at regular time, but they went ahead to win the game on post match penalties 4-2.
In Kisumu county at Moi stadium, home team Kisumu all-stars waited In vain for visitors Keroka university who did not show up. It is alledged that the visitors were denied transport by the College in unclear circumstances that are yet to be established.
In Nairobi county, Kariobangi Sharks mauled Talanta FC 4-2 in a game that saw skipper Patilla Omotto red carded for elbowing aTalanta FC player off the ball. Hussein Puzzo of Talanta FC was also showed his marching orders for using abusive language aimed at the second assistant referee miss Doreen Kendi.
As Kenya’s footballing world awaits the last eight, there now looms a dark cloud of uncertainty due to Corona Virus as some first tier Clubs failed to honor their fixtures and used that as an excuse. FKF now has big decisions to make in regards to that as all eyes now are on them.
