WHO Boss hopes Coronavirus will end in two years, but does this mean more suffering to Kenyans?

The World Health Organization boss Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Friday evening during a regular briefing in Geneva, said that he hopes the coronavirus pandemic will end in less than two years.

According to the WHO boss, it will be faster than it took to stop the 1918 Spanish flu.

“We are more connected now with greater technological advancements than our formative years. But we have a disadvantage of globalization, closeness, connectedness though still an advantage of better technology,” Tedros said adding that it is easier for a virus to spread today than 100 years ago.

According to the WHO boss, the key to stopping the virus is for countries around the world to “pool our efforts.”

Pooling these efforts doesn’t seem to be the problem, but cases of corruption and massive mismanagement of funds meant to facilitate Covid 19 programs, now seem to be the order of the day in countries like Kenya.

Recently, an investigative TV journalist from a local station came up with a documentary that showed at least 43 billion shillings that have been uncounted for during this pandemic.

There also have been massive irregularities during procurement procedures and tenders issued out when it comes to getting protective gear against Covid 19.

The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA is now an organization under the watchful eyes of the Kenyan public after these findings.

On Thursday, doctors and nurses in Kenya downed their tools citing poor working conditions, lack of Personal Protective Equipment when dealing with Covid 19 patients and above all financial issues when it comes to their payment.

If this pandemic indeed will take two years to wipe out completely then countries like Kenya, where corruption is now the order of the day for the rich and mighty at the helm of the government, will have the ordinary citizens continue to suffer as the rich get richer.
