Italian giants Intermilan have joined the race to sign Atletico Madrid Ghanaian star Thomas Partey according to reports on Monday as Arsenal struggles to pay his 45 million euros release clause.
Just ripe after winning the FA Community shield on Saturday, it was evident at Wembley on how badly Mikel Arteta needs his midfield reinforced.
Spaniard Dani Cebbalos has returned to parent club Real Madrid and there are rumors that unsettled Lucas Torreira might be on his way to Italian Serie A as Ac Milan has shown interest.
The Gunners’ lack of midfield options showed when Mohamed Elneny started against Liverpool having spent the previous campaign on loan at Besiktas.
Italian media led by Gazzetta delo sport believes and has reported that the Nerazzuri head coach Antonio Conte wants Partey in his midfield as the black and the blues aims to dislodge Juventus at the helm of Italian football.
The Ghana international is believed to be earmarked as a possible replacement for Marcelo Brozovic, who is being chased by Bayern Munich.
Earlier this month, Partey’s national team manager, Charles Akonnor, urged him to turn down a move to Arsenal.
He said: “Honestly, I wouldn’t want him to move to Arsenal because with Atletico, he will always play Champions League football.
“His position is guaranteed and he will always play.
“With Arsenal, I’m not too sure. Arsenal fans will kill me [for saying he should not join them].
“I hope that [he stays], and I’m sure money issues will come in, but I hope that whatever he asks for, Atletico will be able to pay.”
It’s now a wait and see game, with the coffers ready to go or ready to bargain for a deal.
