President Uhuru Kenyatta promised Kenyan sports men and women at least nine sporting facilities by December this year.
Speaking on Saturday mid-morning during the re-opening of the Nyayo National Stadium, the president was upbeat that Kenyans will improve their sporting standards internationally.
“This renovated facility will see Kenyans adding new pages internationally. We are currently in the process of constructing the Jamhuri Sports and Leisure Entertainment Park here in Nairobi. Other sports projects we are embarking on are in Eldoret, Marsabit, Meru, Chuka, Kisumu, Nyeri, Makueni, Wang’uru in Kirinyanga and Kirigiti in Kiambu,” said the president who also added that the upgrading of the mentioned sporting facilities is fully funded and should be commissioned by December this year.
The president also called upon the ministry of sports to redouble its efforts in their bid to resume sports in the country.
The ministry had given the go ahead of non-contact sports to resume while the rest awaits further information from the ministry of health.
He also directed the Amina Mohammed led ministry to reconvene also Paralympics and more so in their attempts to compete internationally.
The newly refurbished Nyayo national Stadium is now ready and will host its first international event on third October with the Kip Keino Classics taking center stage in Kenya’s capital city.
