Manchester United are preparing to hand Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a new contract even if the club finish the season without a trophy, it has been revealed.
According to The telegraph the club has great confidence in the Norwegian as real progress is now being witnessed at Old Trafford.
United are yet to win any silverware under Solskjaer and are facing the prospect of a fourth successive season without a trophy – the first time that would have happened since 1989 – unless they lift the Europa League, the last competition they won in 2017.
Having drawn Spanish side Granada in the quarter-finals, they are the favorites to win the competition and will face Roma or Ajax in the last four should they progress.
The Red devils are currently second in the Premier League and look well placed to qualify for the Champions League, even if the 14-point gap to leaders Manchester City is a reminder of the gulf still to bridge.
Solskjaer has 15 months left on his existing contract and is in line for a new deal at the end of the season.
The Old Trafford hierarchy is convinced that ‘Baby face’ is bringing about marked improvement at the club and his future should not be determined on whether they win the Europa League this term – the only trophy still realistically available to them following their elimination at Leicester last week in the FA cup quarter finals.
