Manchester City fans on Friday lashed out at their manager Josep Guardiola after his plea for more of them to attend home games have been met rudely.
Guardiola pleaded with City fans to attend more home games after just 38,000 fans showed up during the mid-week Euefa champions’ league clash with Rb Leizpig.
After the victory in their opening Champions’ League group game, Guardiola said: “I would like more people to come to the next game on Saturday.
But the general secretary of City’s official supporters’ club Kevin Parker wants Guardiola to be more considerate of circumstances, insisting the Spaniard “doesn’t understand the difficulties” supporters face.
“[What he said] did surprise me,” Parker said. “I’m not sure what that’s got to do with him. He doesn’t understand the difficulties that some people might have getting to a game at the Etihad on a Wednesday evening at 8pm.
“They’ve got kids to think of, they might not be able to afford it, [and] there are still some Covid issues about. I don’t see why he comments on it.
His comments further confused Parker because their two home attendances against Norwich (51,437) and Arsenal (52,276) have been close to capacity.
Manchester city will play a tricky Southampton this Saturday at eitihad, a game that’s sending shivers already down the spine of Guardiola.
