Admin Tanzania’s football giants Young Africans Sports Club announced on their social media account on Monday that they have sacked head coach Luc Eymael.
The Belgian who led his side to a second log finish, in the just concluded Tanzania’s first tier football league is said to have collided with fans in a mid-week match.
“I was provoked by a fan from our rivals Simba and I apologized on Friday for my comments,” the 60 year old said and added that he was not racist by any means.
On Wednesday Yanga played to a one all draw with Mtibwa sugar and some fans showed displeasure with his tactics.
After the match, the Belgian showed his dark side with words full of anger, but out of order.in a widely circulated recording. Luc called the fans dogs and said that they chanted like monkeys, something that angered the public at large.
Eymael’s rant also complained about the state of the pitches in Tanzania, the officiating in the league and also the administration at Yanga for not fulfilling its promises to him.
He also begged to be allowed to leave the club but instead he has now been sacked shortly after the final match of the season.
On Monday, Yanga dropped the bombshell on him. The club announced that “Because of such derogatory and unsporting comments, the management of Yanga has decided to sack Coach Luc Eymael as from today 27 July 2020,” the statement said.
On his defense, the Belgian questioned why the club had to wait until after Sunday’s final game of the season before making the announcement.
“I have not received any official letter from the management regarding the alleged sacking, I can’t say anything about it until I discuss with my lawyers,” he said.
Yanga’s press officer Hassan Bumbuli explained that the club only became aware of the recording on Friday while on the way to Iringa for their final match of the season.
Tanzania Football Association (TFF) is also said to be looking into the matter, saying it will take a disciplinary action against Eymael and initiate legal proceedings against him for what it sees as racist remarks towards the country’s football fans.
However Eymael insists he was not aware of his dismissal and has apologized to fans in Tanzania. He also promised to fight back and according to him, he has instructed his lawyers to start looking into the matter.
