Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko was summoned to a meeting by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday in Nairobi in a bid to bring peace within the city, as wrangles between the governor and NMS are still ripe.
Speaking just after that meeting at Kenyatta International Conference Center, Sonko was apologetic and blamed the president’s confidants for feeding him with wrong information.
“Mr President, these people are lying to you that I am fighting the NMS. I myself came to you seeking help and you gave me the Nairobi Metropolitan Services with general Badi, how can I fight him? I don’t have anything against Badi, I urge him to join hands with me and lets us work together for the good of Nairobi residents,” said the Nairobi governor who sounded hypocritical.
On Tuesday in Ruai, the governor attended the burial of a middle aged man who died within Mukuru slums while demolishing a building said to have been on a road site. Sonko blamed the death of the man to efforts by the Badi led NMS and assured the public that he will fight back since his people are suffering under the NMS rule.
However it’s not the first time Sonko has been involved in a verbal spat of words aimed to General Badi. He has further gone ahead to direct his lawyers to seek legal proceedings against NMS.
“It’s a high time that you Sonko stopped these useless fights. Badi is a soldier under my orders. Soldiers have no political ambitions, after this project he will head back to the barracks and continue guarding the country. He is here on my command and is answerable to only me, so stop playing politics with useless fights and start working for the good of Nairobi residents,” a stern Uhuru Kenyatta warned the Nairobi governor.
On Thursday mid-morning, the Nairobi Governor made a surprise stop at Ruben Fm and assured Mukuru residents that life will change. He promised them a hospital, better roads and improved sporting facilities. He again emphasized that he will work hand in hand with general Badi.
All eyes now are on the insecure Nairobi governor as he tries to keep peace with general Badi’s NMS.
Though some see it as a public relations gimmick aimed to appease the president, the country is now waiting to see if Sonko will withdraw the said court cases intended to block the NMS and work hand in hand with Badi peacefully.
