French Ligue une champions Paris St Germain have opened talks with Nigerian loanee Odion Ighalo, according to reports from France and Germany on Friday.
After the departure of striker Edinson Cavani, PSG are in need of a number nine and now German website Fussballtransfers claim Paris Saint-Germain are monitoring Ighalo and view him as a potential replacement for Edinson Cavani.
Cavani, 33, is poised to join Benfica on a free transfer after 200 goals and seven trophy-laden seasons with the French heavyweights. And Fussballtransfers say work is already underway to bring Ighalo to Paris.
It’s claimed the club has made ‘initial contact’ with the center-forward’s representatives to discuss a potential transfer.
Back in February, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left the door open for Ighalo to earn a permanent contract with the club.
The former Nigeria international enjoyed a three-season spell with Watford before joining Chinese Super League outfit Changchun Yatai and then Shanghai Shenhua.
46 goals in 74 appearances in China attracted attention from Manchester United, who brought him to Old Trafford in January for the remainder of the season.
The 35-capped Nigeria international settled in quickly in Manchester – scoring five goals and providing one assist in 599 minutes of first-team action.
United announced that they had agreed to extend Ighalo’s loan deal until 30 January 2021 – but have made no firm commitment about signing him on a permanent deal.
Now reported interests from the French moneybags outfit could just spoil the party art Old Trafford as clubs are preparing for next season.
