AFC LEOPARDS PLAYERS OVER THE PERIMETER WALL AS THEY ESCAPE A POLICE DRAG NET.

A section of Afc leopards players are said to have escaped a police drag net by a whisker on Wednesday morning at Camp Toyoyo grounds in Nairobi during a training session.

It is said that a local simply known as ‘Jaya’ reported the alleged use of the facility to Jogoo Road police station as Afc leopards were training.

The police arrived and arrested three officials and two staff members of the Camp Toyoyo grounds, who were later released on bond and it is said that they will be arraigned at Makadara law courts on Friday.

The police stood firm that Afc leopards had defied the Covid 19 protocols put forward by the government following orders from the president that all sporting activities be suspended.

The Government suspended sports in March following the surge of the third wave of Covid- 19.

President Uhuru Kenyatta said Nairobi county had 4,380 confirmed COVID-19 cases on January 20, but that the figure had increased to 15,916 by March 22.

The minister of health Mr Mutahi Kagwe also warned that Kenya was facing a third wave of COVID-19, with the rate of infection having risen from 2.6 per cent in January up to around 22 per cent.

The president went ahead and announced new lockdown measures with a particular focus on high-risks areas, including the capital city Nairobi, as well as Kajiado, Machakos, Nakuru and Kiambu.

The new measures included the suspension of all sporting activities that led to the suspension of Kenya’s first tier football league.

Prior to that, Tusker fc was at the top of the table with 36 points from 16 games, six points ahead of second-placed KCB and seven points more than AFC Leopards who have just escaped police justice for allegedly defying Covid 19 protocols.

On Wednesday evening, health minister Mutahi Kagwe added salt to injury by saying that sports might not return as soon as expected, the government’s priority at the moment is safety.
