Paris St Germain have entered the race to lure German defender Antonio Rudiger away from Stamford Bridge as his contract seems to be coming to a close with less than 12 months remaining.
With Mauriccio Pochettino now in charge at Parc des prince, the main goal is winning the Eufa Champions League, but Thomas Tuchel thinks otherwise of his defender.
“Nothing is better than what he is doing for a new contract,” Tuchel said in May.
“If he wants to have a new contract he has our full support to stay at the club. He is speaking with his performances; he has been amazing since day one.
“We chose him in the first match after just one day of training. It was an unfair decision against Kurt [Zouma] but he’s German and I had a clearer picture of what he can do, of course, because I’ve followed him more than Kurt Zouma.
“I had a clear picture of what he can deliver to a team and he took the chance.
“Since then it’s well deserved he is in the team. He is an aggressive leader, and has this natural aggressivity in him.
“He hates to lose, is hard to beat in duels, is very brave, and full of energy in his defending.
Responding to Tuchel’s comments over his new contract, Rudiger said : “That’s nice and I’m happy too.
“You always make your decision to some extent dependent on the coaching staff, but in the long term you can never rely on them anyway.
“After the European Championships, we can talk.”
According to a fresh report, PSG are interested in taking advantage of the Germany international’s contract situation at the Chelsea.
Antonio has less than 12 months remaining on his deal at Stamford Bridge, and if an extension is not agreed prior to the January transfer window, then the centre-back will be free to speak to foreign clubs over signing a pre-contract agreement.
