Harambee Stars coach Jacob Mulee on Thursday lashed out to the media and insisted that striker Michael Olunga is now Kenya’s captain, adding that he is building a new team.
His sentiments have spilled out beans that maybe former captain Victor Mugubi Wanyama’s time playing for Kenya is over.
“ Why are we talking about Wanyama?” Mulee asked..
“when I came in, I watched the boys play against Comoros and I was not satisfied with something so I had to find a solution. We have been having a problem in our midfield and finally I have found Odada, who is young and very promising,” said Mulee.
“ My captain is Olunga and that is final. I am not changing that, don’t ask me about Wanyama, I now have Olunga,” a charged up Mulee answered journalists.
With the national team’s head coach praises to rookie Richard Odada, a Red Star Belgrade defensive midfielder who is currently on loan to FK Metalac in Serbia’s top flight football league, Wanyama’s time might be coming to a close unless otherwise.
Harambee stars have travelled to Rwanda’s capital Kigali and will play the host nation on Sunday in a bid to qualify for the Fifa world cup in Qatar 2022.
Mulee’s boys are in group E, where Mali is currently leading the log after defeatiomng Rwanda to a solitary goal.
Now Harambee stars (Kenya) have to beat the Amavubi (Rwanda) at home on Sunday in Kigali so as to keep their dreams alive for Qatar next year. The home team also has to win or else it will be disastrous for them as the rest of the matches will just be to honour the FIfa calendar of events.
With the talk of the town being the exclusion of now former captain Mugubi Wanyama, on Sunday will yet be another acid test for Harambee Stars.
