2022 politics: Ruto, Raila or Gideon Moi, who will be president?

With two years to go before President Uhuru Kenyatta hands over the mantle to a new ruler, Kenya’s political scenario is burning with hopes, hopefuls, admirers and those admired to take over the presidency.

With many pundits also throwing in their speculations, they still believe it’s a two horse race with the main men being vice president William Samoei Ruto and seasoned politician, ODM leader Raila Amollo Odinga.

Speaking on Saturday afternoon, Cherengany .Member of Parliament Joshua Kutuny was an angry man.

“Gideon Moi’s KANU has now found a seat in the Jubilee party. With him being there, it doesn’t mean that now he is on a personal vendetta to punish us who are allied to Ruto. Gideon is wasting time; in 2022 it will be a two horse race. It’s either Raila Odinga or William Ruto,” said Kutuny who also added that Gideon Moi should seek an audience with the Nandi people first, and not make deals with top government officials.

Vice president William Ruto has been vocal on his desire for presidency come 2022. Others have seen it as an obsession to rival Luo kingpin Raila Odinga, who is yet to show his commitment to run for presidency in 2022.

“I don’t want to talk about it. Only time will tell, but for now we have a lot that we are trying to achieve with President Uhuru Kenyatta when it comes to bringing Kenyan people together. Those who want to run for presidency in 2022, let them campaign, it’s their right anyway.” Said Raila Odinga, the man who has run for presidency a record five times now.

It is believed by many that Raila Odinga has won three out of five presidential races, only to be robbed through systems that can only be described in short as corrupt.

“This time round we are in the system. We have won three times, but robbed. Our main agenda and goals remain the same that we want the presidency and that’s why we are friends with the current president. That system is what will help us win without being robbed again,” said Oburu Odinga, who is also an elder brother to Raila and currently represents Kenya in the East African legislative Assembly.

Gideon Moi, son of the late Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, Kenya’s second president who ruled the country for a record 24 years, seems to not be a favorite in the race. Many also see him as a rookie without a plan compared to the famous son of a peasant, current vice president William Ruto.

Raila Odinga on the other hand, is not only seasoned with lots of experience, but also knows how to read the political waves in the country. His understanding of the political terrain, the power of planning and making political deals without creating enemies gives him an upper hand over the rest.

Now the big question that is constantly lingering into the minds of many is when will Raila Odinga openly declare his candidature for 2022 presidency?
