As the world continues to celebrate the World Youth International Day, youths of different age groups congregated at Ruben Center for a business forum on Friday afternoon.
The forum organized by Salama Center, brought together about 60 young men and women from all over Mukuru slums, in Nairobi.
Speaking at the event, head of Salama Center Miss Annette Kimeu was appreciative.
“At Ruben Center we are celebrating the World Youth International Week. Our aim at Mukuru Salama Center is to empower the majority of our youths who are unemployed. With the coronavirus pandemic countrywide, it’s even worse and tough with the economic challenges and that’s why we have this forum here today to discuss possible ways to earn a living while engaging into business activities,” said Annette who also added that there are talks in place to seek partners who in turn will look into offering loans.
The World Youth International Day celebrated globally, has seen different young men and women whose challenges have been raised and later solved.
In Mukuru slums Nairobi. Mukuru Salama Center, a project of Ruben Center has come up with different ways to engage the youth into productivity and more so economic empowerment.
Among some of the business opportunities that were discussed at the forum were owning kiosks, barber shops, salons, boutiques, car washes, selling groceries and engaging into clean up exercises.
The visionary young men and women however have endured harsh economic times and having startup capitals is a problem. But in the meantime, an idea planted will be sowed in future as they are encouraged to follow their dreams and always share ideas.
