Embakasi South Member of Parliament Julius Musili Mawathe has promised his constituents a modern stadium to be completed within a year’s time.
Speaking at the Embakasi South Sports Association football coaches training forum at Mukuru Community Center on Thursday, the MP was confident he will deliver.
“I want sports to grow in the Embakasi South Constituency. With a modern stadium, our footballers will be able to develop their talents and reach higher grounds. Within a year, a stadium will be completed at Kwa Njenga primary school, the only thing now we are doing is to finalize with our contractor,” said the politician who also added that capacity building will be improved by development of infrastructure.
The constituency has about 24 football teams, mainly dominated by the males as only three are female.
With the help of Embakasi South Sports Association, now the sports teams can participate also actively.
“We are trying our level best to empower our sports men and women. Most of them didn’t know that there is about four percent of money allocated to them via the Constituency Development Fund. What we do is to access those funds for them, pay the affiliation fees, uniforms and also cater for their transport to and from match venues,” said chairperson Kwamboka Kibagendi.
The chairperson also added that with the intended new facility, the constituency which has their sports men and women mainly from Mukuru kwa Njenga, Mukuru kwa Ruben and Mukuru Imara, sports in general is destined for greatness.
Though in Kenya it is difficult to trust a politician, now all eyes and hopes are on the said stadium as still many hopeful footballers still play in dusty fields during sunny days and muddy play grounds when it rains.
