On 31st October 2026, a youth-led community group conducted a Participatory Educational Theatre (PET) at Lunga Lunga area, near the Chief’s Office in Viwandani, with the aim of promoting peace, unity, and peaceful coexistence as the country approaches the electioneering period. The activity sought to create awareness among community members about the importance of maintaining peace before, during, and after the elections, while encouraging residents to take an active role in preventing election-related violence, political intolerance, and conflicts within their neighbourhood.
The group used acting and drama as the main tools of communication to deliver messages on peacebuilding, tolerance, respect for diverse political opinions, and the importance of resolving disagreements peacefully. Through relatable performances reflecting real-life community experiences and election-related challenges, the group captured the attention of residents and provided an opportunity for them to reflect on how political differences can affect relationships, security, and community development. The performances also highlighted the role of young people and other community members in promoting responsible political participation and discouraging actions that could lead to violence and division.
The PET attracted over 300 community members, who actively participated in the session by sharing their views, raising concerns, and discussing their expectations regarding the forthcoming elections. The interactive discussions provided a platform for residents to express their opinions on the political environment and identify practical ways of maintaining peace within their community. Participants were encouraged to embrace dialogue, respect one another’s political choices, avoid spreading inflammatory messages, and reject any form of political incitement.
The activity concluded with a strong commitment from participants to uphold peace and encourage others to do the same throughout the electioneering period. By using participatory theatre, the youth-led group successfully created an engaging platform for civic education, community dialogue, and peace sensitisation. The activity reinforced the message that peace is a collective responsibility and that every community member, regardless of age or political affiliation, has a role to play in ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
