The claim that President William Ruto wants to remove the presidential term limit is false and misleading.
There has been a tweet from Lloyd Onyango claiming that president William Ruto wants to change the presidential term limits.
This conversation has been sparked by comments from Fafi Member of Parliament Salah Yakub on 8th November 2022 when he claimed that there were plans to abolish presidential term limits.
Ruben FM looked into the validity of this claim.
President Ruto addressed the issue on 16th November 2022 through a press conference where he said;
“… I want to be very clear that as president I will not participate in mutilating the constitution for purposes of serving selfish personal parochial interests. We will oppose any move to change the constitution, change term limits and change things that benefit individuals. That is unnecessary and won’t happen under my watch…”
From the speech, President Ruto does not want to change the presidential term limits.
The claim that the president wants to abolish the presidential term limits is, therefore, false and misleading.
