Ruben FM and Embakasi South Sports Association Join Hands to Organise ‘Foota na Peace’ Tournament

Ruben FM team held a consultative meeting with the Embakasi South Sports Association to discuss preparations for the upcoming annual tournament dubbed “Foota na Peace,” an initiative that seeks to use sports as a platform for community empowerment, peacebuilding, and public awareness on governance and social accountability issues in Mukuru.

The tournament aims to go beyond football by creating an opportunity for residents, especially young people, to engage in meaningful conversations on governance, service delivery, and accountability. It will also promote Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) awareness, encouraging community members to speak out against abuse, understand available support services, and work collectively towards safer and more inclusive communities.

Another key focus of the tournament will be sensitisation of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) on their rights, promoting inclusion, equal opportunities, and participation in community development. Through sports and community engagement, the initiative seeks to challenge discrimination and strengthen awareness of the importance of respecting the rights and dignity of everyone.

The tournament continues to attract growing interest, with a total of 23 teams represented, demonstrating the passion for football among residents and the community’s appreciation of initiatives that combine sports with social impact. The participation reflects the belief that football can serve as a powerful tool for bringing people together, building relationships, and addressing challenges affecting the community.

For Ruben FM and the Embakasi South Sports Association, Foota na Peace represents a shared commitment to empowering Mukuru through sports while amplifying conversations on peace, accountability, gender equality, and disability inclusion.

As preparations continue, the initiative reaffirms the importance of partnerships between community media, sports associations, and residents in promoting positive social change. Beyond the competition on the pitch, the ultimate goal is to build an informed, peaceful, inclusive, and empowered Mukuru community where every resident has a voice and an opportunity to contribute to development.
