False: Hustler’s Fund is Not For Women Only

The claim that the Hustler Fund is for women and not men is false and misleading.

There have been tweets from Kimoti and Mburu Kamau doing rounds on social media that the Hustler Fund is intended for women and not men.

The Hustler Fund is part of President William Ruto’s agenda. It is a fund intended to enable people to finance their business startups. Recently Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua spoke on the hustler fund. Following his speech there emerged a narrative that the Hustler Fund was only intended for women and that men were not intended recipients of the fund.

Ruben FM looked into the validity of this claim.

According to a YouTube video by K24TV, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua gave the guidelines on the allocation of the funds by gender priority.

“….hustler’s funds, fifty per cent is reserved for the women of Kenya and even if it was not reserved, they would be the beneficiaries. They would take more than 70% of that fund….’.

By stating this, The Deputy President did not say that the money is not available for men as the distribution would favor women to a great extent but not entirely.

Therefore, the claim that the hustler fund is only for women and men are not to be benefactors of the loan is false and misleading.
